Carbon Fiber in Lake Moses

""
"BMW broke ground today on a new carbon fiber manufacturing plant in Moses Lake, WA."
"The facility is designed to further commercialize the manufacture of carbon fiber to be used in BMW’s future vehicles, namely the MegaCity and other cars headed toward future production.

The big advantage of carbon fiber is it weighs one-fifth of steel yet is just as strong and stiff, making it an ideal candidate to build into the structure of vehicles. This in turn reduces a vehicle’s weight, creating an incredible increase in fuel economy and fewer emissions.

The carbon fibers manufactured in this new plant will be used exclusively in BMW Group’s projects and production schedules. Lake Moses was chosen based primarily on the region’s availability of renewable, clean hydropower and competitive energy costs. BMW has often stated it hopes to continue its travels toward becoming a “Carbon Neutral” company, and steps like these prove they meant it.
